As you know I had my Sterling's pickguard signed by Marcus Miller. Of course, I don't want to play my Sterling using this pg for obvious reasons.

So I took a walk to the bass stores in London...

Manta: 'Hi, do you sell Musicman pickguards?'

Salesperson: 'No, but we can order it for you'

Manta: 'Do you know perhaps what is it going to cost?'

Salesperson: 'About £60, maybe more'(   )

Manta(choking): 'Umph! ok, I'll give it a thought and I'll get back to you'

Although when I go to a shop I don't fool around and usually buy what I'm after, I am so not giving that amount of money for a pickguard. Big Poppa, is it true that you charge so much for a pg? How can you justify this price? Please tell me because I really believe that this is money really not worth spending.....

I can tell you that pearloid guards from EBMM go for about fifty dollars here in the US, so that price may be in line.....

Speaking of which, I have a boatload of pickguards I should sell so I can finish off my boy's college fund.

IMO, EBMM's pickguards are made better than most others. They seem more substantial to me, which I find odd - I can't imagine there's too many sources of the raw materials. The cutting and fit is superb.

My bass teacher got his P-bass pickguard signed by Rocco. He just put a clear sticker (carefully!) over it, and went right on playing. Worth a thought, costs a lot less than a new pickguard!

Thanks for helping me man.

I just can't understand how a pickguard(£60) can cost almost as much as a MM pickup(£80-85).

i had morse sign the back of my 90 morse guitar...then lightly sprayed over it w/ fullerplast (a clearcoat rock hard stuff fender use to use as a sealer)........but over time uv still faded the sig.

I did the same thing with an Epiphone Jack Casady bass after Jack signed the pg. Covered it with clear plastic pg material that you can buy in sheets from Stew-Mac, cut to fit, and it worked fine. I ended up selling the bass, so I don't know if the sig ever faded, but if you think UV will fade the sig don't play it outside. :)

You can try ebay. Do a search for "dazbootman" he has a pickguard store, I think a few people here have bought from him before.

Hey Mantaray. I just bought a clear SR4 pickguard from Dazbootman on "the bay" for about a third of that price, and I think he charges about $10 US shipping to the UK. I haven't bought pickguards from him before, but have heard good things from other forumites about the quality of his work (and they look sweet in the photos). I went for a clear one so I could "personalize" my bass at will, and change it if I ever get bored of the look. Though I know one can never really get 'bored' of the look of an SR4 black on black :)
