Hello all, two of my guitars (one being a mm jp bfr) have suddenly turned silent ... I plugged them into the amp and then nothing, nada ... not even the smallest noise. No matter the pickup selection, nothing ...

I initially thought that was the amp or the wires, but guitar #3 works like a charm.

Any idea of what is wrong here ?

Thanks in advance.

I know that you said that guitar #3 works fine, but I would still suspect the cable. For two guitars to stop working at the same time is really odd, and don't forget that cable breaks are often intermittent, so unplugging guitar #2 and then plugging in guitar#3 may have provided the little bit of movement to make the cable work again.

I am of course assuming that you have already tried another cable?

Thanks everyone for the answers.

Volume pot ... checked
Tried different cables
Tried a different amp
Tried different pickup configuration

So basically, i've tested every part of the chain and it points to the guitars ....

Could I have done something wrong in the amp / pedal chain that would harm the guitars ?

I suspected sabotage from the wife .... but since she will not confess her crime I will keep looking for a better explanation !

Batteries?

Do either or both guitars require batteries that could have run out?

I am starting to clutch at straws on your behalf because I really can't see two guitars failing at once in the same fashion.

Have you used all 3 guitars recently, into the same setup? I.e. if we were to assume that there was something wrong in your rig that somehow damaged the guitars is there any reason why it would only have affected 2 out of 3 guitars?

If you're not hearing anything when the cable is plugged in (including the kind of buzzing you get when the cable is just out on its own), then it sounds like the signal is getting grounded. I'd suspect a bad cable, or something weird, like it not being inserted all the way into the output jack.

That said ... I'm not sure what any of us can say to help. I'd take your guitars into a shop, etc. and try them there to see, different cable, amp, etc. If you're handy, take the output jack off and see what's going on. If not, take them to a tech, this should be a very easy thing to diagnose.

On the piezo- I don't know what guitars you have, so can't answer that. Any MMs with a piezo have both an active and passive output, so if the battery dies the passive output should work just fine.

We are making some progress here ....

On the first guitar, it was a problem with the input jack ...

I`m now taking the BFR to the tech and hope for the best ...

Been playing guitar for countless years and never had that type of problem and now possibly two input jack issues on different guitars the same week !

I'm still putting money on the aliens who built the pyramids being responsible. I mean....come on. They built the pyramids....whacking out 2 guitars would be child's play.
