Hey guys, sorry but I just had to share my excitement.

Just got back from the Bass Centre in London where I have just ordered and paid for my first MM bass.

I've gone for a Stingray 4 H in white pearl with a black pickguard and maple neck.

Ever since I first started playing bass about 10 years ago I longed to own a Ray. I fell out of love with playing bass over the last few years as I concentrated more on career stuff. However, I recently started jamming again and realised that I could probably get away with buying a ray if I wanted. I played a few other makes and models but the Ray just kept coming back to me so I finally caved in and ordered one today.

I'm a lefty so had to order a new one - which means a 12 week wait but to be honest after 10 years an extra 3 months is nothing!

It's times like these I wish I could hibernate for a few months and wake up to the sound of it growling away.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble but my excitement seems lost on most people I have been talking to about this purchase and thought this might be the only place people understood how I am feeling right now!

All the best,

Rik.

Nice!

:DI've heard that that USA guitars cost a pretty penny over there. It should be money well spent. It's an Ernie Ball Musicman! Congrats

Congratulations! Not pointless - in fact, what better place to share your excitement.

Just curious - did you consider an HH versus H?

Right on funkymofo and welcome to the forum and the club.

Stingray 4 H - now that's a real mans bass. No reason to have more than 4. You're not going to put flats on her are you? :D

Congrats and hang on, buddy. This is an E Ticket ride.

Cheers all - nice to know that I'm not completely insane, or if I am then I'm not alone!

Yes I did consider a HH, until I realised you can't get one on a left-handed body, made my decision a little easier and price a little cheaper!

And yeah TGL I think they aren't too far off being the same price in £'s as in $'s. But for me, the Ray will be for life so I think it's a worthwhile investment.

T-bone, no plans to put flats on as of yet! I have a 5 string yamaha at the moment...I only got it because it was a 1 month wait for a 4string whereas they had a 5 in stock when I bought it (10 years ago). I found that I don't really use the B string (other than for a thumb-rest) and I am keeping it so if I need a 5 I've got one anyway.

Congratulations! Like everyone else said, very on point, this is what we love to talk about. Enjoy the wait, it will be unbareable but slot of fun. And the excitement you feel now is only a taste of the excitement you feel when you will open the case for the first time.

Congrats again and welcome to the family!

The Bass Centre in London - has that re-opened?

The Bass Centre - Bass Guitar and Bass Amp Experts

Just did a quick google and it looks like there are a few called 'the bass centre' in London. The guys I used are based near London Bridge on Morocco Street. Top guys, very helpful indeed. Obviously I can't recommend yet as I dont have the bass but the pre-sales was very good!

I think my girlfriend agrees with the affliction part too - she is sick to death of me showing her youtube clips of MM's in action ha!

Flatz?

The only person in the UK that is allowed to put flats on a bass is Sir Paul.

If I've already tried the bass before, I'd order it online from Bassdirect instead, better price. If you prefer a shop in London instead of ordering online, I'd say Bass Gallery in Camden is better than Bass Centre.

Bit late now! ha, thanks though. I did ring round a few places but the Bass centre came out cheapest and they also just seemed like decent guys, which I do think is a factor when placing a long term relatively high value order like this!

They were one of the only places that seemed to know exactly what you could and couldn't have in left handed too, which was helpful.

On another note I have realised that the girlfriend does not have a leg to stand on when it comes to moaning about the cost of my hobby. She plays the cello semi-pro and for the price of her instrument I could get about 10 stingrays. If you thought the 70's was vintage for an instrument her cello is from 1690!
