Pole Piece Dulling, Is It Common ?

Hey,

Over the last few years I have noticed the pole pieces on my Musicman Stingray pickup have slowly changed from bright silver to a duller grey colour.

It doesnt bother me too much but I would like to know if it affects the tone in any way ? Is It Common or Reversable ?

It's common and you can clean it up with an eraser if it's not too bad.
