I'm thinking of adding another EBMM, this time a 4 string. Around here in particular, the Sterling 5 seems to be much more popular than the SR5. But regarding 4 strings, which is the better seller, Sterling or SR. Popularity isn't going to effect my decision but if one 4 stringer is more popular, I would be interested in knowing why.

Pre SLO my answer would be the Sterling neck makes all the difference. Now i just have to go with the Sterling looks cooler (personal preference ofcourse) and is lighter.

No even an apples to apples comparison. The Sterling 4H has a coil selection switch that the Stingray 4H does not have. The Sterling 4HH selection switch creates different coil combinations that the Stingray 4HH. Same thing with the Sterling 4HS vs Stingray 4HS.

These are and I believe were meant to be two totally different basses. Just like the Bongo is not the same as either of these others even with the same pickup configurations.

You have to try each one out and see which fills your musical need.

Of course, you will end up wanting both :)

Resistance is futile :)

Good luck.

OK The Sting Ray started it all and is the all time best seller There are times where the sterling inches close but the Sr is the 'classic Music man' or as some bass forums say "one trick pony" hhhheeeehhheeeh

I prefer the Stingray neck and I also prefer the tone of the Stingray. I need to try a Stingray HH and HS. :D

Am I the only one who prefers the stingray neck?

Love the SR neck. Perfect IMHO. Had to break out the backup 78 P bass after my stingray's output kept cutting in and out on a gig last night.

Man what a difference. That P bass neck is like a ball bat compared to the Stingray neck. Don't understand why anyone would prefer anything else. Jazz bass necks are too thin. P bass necks are too fat. The Stingray neck is perfectly right in the middle.:)

I have a 1996 20th Anniversary Stingray and a 2005 Buttercream Sterling H/S.
I can't decide which one I like better and I'm glad I don't have to.
I will say that I preferred the Stingray H tone to the Sterling H I had, but with multiple pickup options on either bass, it's now a complete toss-up for me.

Thanks. I have no problem with the SR neck's. I suppose the real difference is the Sterling is more mid emphasized to the SR's lows. I've owned the SR and Bongo but haven't tried the Sterling. I'll just have to see if I can try them side by side.

Stingray for me as well........ I love the Sterling, but I just can't get used to the neck.
