I keep thinking about this every time I play my SUB Sterling and thought I might toss it out on the forum...

You guys notice how the bridge is way back there on the body, right there on the edge? Wouldn't a bigger one designed for 5 strings jut out from the body? I guess that a Sterling 5 would have to have a slightly larger body to keep the bridge from jutting out right? Unless it gets a different bridge like maybe a(dare I say it) string thru body design. What do you guys think? I sure hope the body stays tiny to make it lighter than a Stingray5.

The body has to be bigger. IT has to to accomodate the bridge, a different neck pocket and to keep it in proportion to the neck width. SR5's have bigger bodies as do Bongo5s so why would the Sterling be any different.

That is a very interesting question but i'm not buggin' the guys at EB about anything yet. I mean they've got the 30ths, LEs, DDs, and all the regular orders to deal with right now. I WOULD love my HH SR5 that's due in a week or two though. :D

the Bongo 5 body is identical in dimensions to the 4, the neck pocket is bigger, obviously, but otherwise it's the same - a Bongo 4 pickguard with no pickup holes could be modded to match exactly a Bongo 5 one.

You are right (I stand corrected) it "seems" bigger to me (one of the reasons I sold it) - so disregard me talking through my hind-side in the above post

One of the cool things about waiting to see what's next from BP and his EBMMelves over at the SLOpole is how legendary bass guitar developers tinker and think things through before they release the finished piece to the outside world where it will serve musicians and set the pace for what's beyond.

I've been thinking about thrubody as well; whatever way the EBMMgang figures in the final analysis will probably be the right way, as long as it comes with a Piezo ;)

Yeah, that's what I like so much about the Bongo5. The body is the same size as the 4. Obviously the neck pocket has to be bigger but that's not what I meant.

What makes the Bongo seem bigger is that bigger bridge and wider neck. But it's just an illusion. The body is the same size.

Do you really think the MM design team would hiccup? Get real:rolleyes:

Aw come on now! Course not!!! I just meant it as something they may be trying to work around. I never implied they would release something that wasn't perfect. Just trying to speculate on what they have to work around. Makes you appreciate the craft even more when you think about things they have to take into account when designing an instrument.

While I was at the booth today none of the EBMM crew made a smelly AFAIK.

However there was a guy sitting and playing the DD for a while this afternoon wearing a hawaiian shirt. Can't vouch for him.
