I ordered a Sterling 5 stringHH with a maple neck last year through my local Guitar Center. They were acually quite accomodating, in as much as I was able to get the pickups, neck and headstock the way I wanted it(Gloss Black with Maple neck HH pickups, and Gloss Black headstock). I should have remembered that my hands don't do well with maple fretboards, and the get dirty very fast. Also I like the tonal quality of rosewood or Ebony better. Is it possible to have Music Man refit my bass with the neck I want? or is it asking to much? If I cant get a neck for it I'll probably sell it, even though I love the bass itself. Suggestions? (I sent Music Man an email asking, but haven't had a resonse yet) Thanks, Ken

They don't let you buy necks by themselves, you have to send your neck in and they'll replace it. However, I'm not sure what the policy is on getting a neck exchanged with a neck with different options.

It's a Sunday so they probably won't respond. Tomorrow is also a Fed Holiday so they might not be there either.

They are busy with NAMM, so I wouldn't expect a response for the next couple of days. But, I can tell you the answer-- it won't happen. They will only replace a neck with the same neck. Your only options are to sell the bass and buy one with a rosewood fretboard, or to see if you find someone willing to swap neck with you. That's it.

you cannot order necks, pickups or bridges from MM at all.
they will only do replacements; even then you can only get the exact component your bass came with. (ie: you cannot replace a neck w/ RW fingerboard one that has a maple FB)

Yes, it sucks that you didn't take your hands into consideration when you custom ordered a bass to your exact specs.
