I know I'm going to get destroyed for saying this, but I can't imagine paying more than $2400 to $2600 for an EVH. $3100 is absolutely ABSURD. they're fantastic guitars and they've got the collector's vibe and limited production numbers working in their favor, but having finally gotten to spend a long weekend with my friend's EVH side by side with my axis, I have got to say that the Axis is close enough at half the price that unless it's like in your case, a long term dream, I just can't see the point of the casual EVH fan who isn't a MM buff dropping the capitol on the EVH... but then again I don't have the disposable income to lay down that kind of money for a used guitar I'd just keep at home and obsess over.(becuase believe me, if I could afford to do it I'd hunt one down in a minute):D there's a lot of little touches that make the axis quite different from the EVH, and players who are familiar with MM's current lineup can tell the difference, but I'm still going to champion the axis for the guy on a budget.

on the other hand... you could pay $3100 for an EVH, and bring it to japan (customs might nail you at the airport): you could get an ASTOUNDING ammount of money for it - most of which you'd have to declare on entering the US... so what's the point, right? but you woulden't believe the absolutely breathtaking pricetag those things come with over here. my favorite is a wall sized case at "super guitar shop bigboss" full of vintage les pauls, with a natural EVH in the middle that has a little sign on it that reads in english and japanese: "not for sale"

all in all though, good luck on the quest for the EVH, and I hope some random ebay jerk doesn't skyrocket the price on you next time.

Well said, an EVH is a great guitar for so many reasons. Being rare is one, but an Axis will definately fill the void. Having said that, I own an EVH and would never sell it.

thanks man! hey, you are entitled to your opinion, that is what this place is all about!!

I have a special place in my heart for the EVHs, just because the first concert i ever photographed (F.U.C.K. tour 92)...Eddie was playing the EBMM, i was blown away!!! (see my avatar), i finally bought one and loved it, and now i want another!

it is a lot of $ to spend, but you will never lose $ on one!

Anyway, i've spouted enough...i will continue the search!!!
