I play an eb stingray 4 and recently picked up a new one. I love the way the strings sound brand new. Well i go down to the guitar store to buy more(eb of course) i strap em on and they just sound dull or dead to me. The reason why i post this is because its happened many many times, matter of fact almost everytime. I know i cut the strings the exact length as the factory ones and they still sound dead. My 3 week old strings sound better than brand new ones. Ive tried super slinkys, hybrid, extra slinkys, regular what should i do. Should i maybe order new ones from a different company or what. Iknow eb makes great strings i just always get dead ones.

You may be dealing with a store that has a pretty old string stock. Also, it is better to use the tuning key to wind the new string onto the post. If you wrap the string around the post yourself, you may actually kink the string and in turn kill it.
