I recently set up a Cigano GJ15 guitar with EB Earthwood Nylon strings. We are using this guitar for Latin-y stuff with our Gypsy jazz band. Had to go with the ball end nylon strings due to the Maccaferri type tailpiece.
These Ernie Ball strings, though, start shredding in long strands along the fretboard. I've gone through 3 sets in 2 months. It's only the trebles, not the basses. It looks like they are shedding hair - at first I thought it was fallout from our cat. Pull the hair, and the whole string strats to fall apart. I don't think it's a tailpiece problem, as they are fine behind the bridge. I haven't ruled out the need for a fret dress, buit the frets seem pretty smooth to the touch.
Did I get some bad set (all bought at the same time), or do these strings have recurring problems like these?
