I saw a thread on another board, and it reminded me of an experience I had. Cant remeber if I ever posted about it.

My former band was working on a CD at Arcadia Studios in Atlanta. The enginner Knox (Sammy Knox) has worked with a great number of bands and artists. Really everyone from Aretha Franklin, to Smashmouth, all the way around to Oteil Burbridge. Im talkin lots of heavywieghts in the biz. He had tons of cool stories, and has been in the indrustry for aprox 30-40 years.

When it was my turn to lay tracks, he smiled when I pulled out my StingRay. He said it was a sigh of relief to see the Ray. He went on to say that out of all the basses he run live and/or in the studio, that EBMM basses were always the easiest to get a good sound from. He then commented on some of the "fancy" basses he worked with, and how they sounded killer alone, but in the mix just faded away.

The next time I went up, I took a newly aqquired Bongo, and he hadnt heard of them yet. He was DIGGIN the Bongo. He asked a number of questions about them, and said that he should get one for a house bass. Dont know if that ever happened, but he was that impressed.

Just figured at least one or two of you may find that interesting, or have a similar experince.

Well I will probably never attain such heights as to work with the big guns but it's nice to know that I am well equipped if the opportunity presents itself.

the very same happened to me once.band was doing a demo and the engineer just sort of went "ah Stingray, just go straight into the desk".In the other room were basses and amps but he just wanted the musicman tone straight to tape.and this was way before speaker simulators/amp modellers etc
I've always thought Musicman basses sit great in a mix.they seem to occupy a frequency all of their own, punchy yet transparent- they never mush up kick drums/rhythm guitars etc..

I just got back from recording my bands EP on friday. Our sound guy loved my Sterling. I just set it flat and ran it direct, he barely needed to adjust the EQ. He started playing it himself and fell in love with the neck. My tone cut through like crazy and had real nice low end. I was expecting to hear "what, no p-bass?'' but instead he was praising my EBMM
