I'm intending to buy a new EBMM Cutlass SSS soon. I've been reading what I can about the unique features of the guitar (compensated nut, Silent Circuit, etc.), but I'm wondering if it's more difficult to find someone who can setup the guitar properly, as opposed to more common guitar like a Stat or Tele? I've read that it's setup already from the factory, and the ones I've played in store all feel great. I also read that they're already setup for .09s, which is fine with me. Also, it looks like the trems are set to be flush with the body (not floating), which I also like. Assuming I stay with .09s, is a setup after I buy the guitar all that necessary, and is there anything special I need to let a tech know if I bring it in? Thanks for the help...

Don't worry, aside from enjoying the final product you don't need to do anything different/special when setting up an EBMM with the compensated nut or Silent Circuit!

Switching to 9s may necessitate a minor tweak to the truss, action, and/or intonation, depending upon how you like your guitars to be set up.

The strings that the Cutlass comes with are .009 to .046, which are often called Extra Light Tops, Light Bottoms. The Super Slinkys are usually .009 - .0042, while regular slinkys are .010 to .046.

If you change to the straight .009 - .042 strings, you may need to adjust the truss rod. Also, some strings in the .009 gauge have a bit more string pull due to the core diameter. If you stick to EB .009 - .046 you should be relatively fine, though changes in temp and humidity can always change how the neck behaves.

The tremolo will be "decked", but you will definitely want to adjust it based on your preferences. Some people like it to only rest a little on the top, so it can easily be engaged. Others clamp it down with 4 springs.

Thanks for the input. How many springs are in the guitar originally?

You should not have any issues going from .009 strings to .010. Anything larger, and you'd probably need to adjust the nut.
