hey all,

i know there are about 100 threads with this same question, but mine is a little different. i got a SBMM JP50 and im really happy with it, just want to swap out the pups. i have my eyes on a set of DiMarzio Evolutions for it, i know most people go with the LF/CL or D-sonic (which are found on the JP6).

i had a set of Evo's on an old EBMM Silhouette a few years back, and loved the clean and distorted tones they got (but they were on the pick guard not direct mount like on the jp50). i was just wondering if anyone has tried Evo's or an Evo 2 and Evo neck on the JP50? if so how did it come out?

I play Progressive/ power metal (think Kamelot, Nightwish, Epica, etc..) but i also play in a lot of pit bands for my local theater group (everything from Jesus Christ Superstar to Tommy to Hairspray) and hope to make this my main axe as its the most comforitable guitar ive ever played. im already planning on putting in coil taps into the volume and tone and swaping out the 3 way switch with a dimarzio one when im making the pup swap.
Thanks for your help

Happy Holidays

go for it I installed a set for a guy on a esp and they have a high midrange bump to them they're very creamy and the neck seemed to be very nice and responsive to the tone knob. I say get them and if you don't like it sell them and do something else pickups are a great way of varying tones and fine-tuning them.

I have a basswood body/maple top guitar with an Evo2 in the bridge position and it flat out screams! Like Jake said, the midrange bump makes it really cut through for solos. I also have a coil tap on it and love the way it sounds when activated...real bright when playing clean and like a nasty tele when you dig into the strings with some overdrive; it's real responsive to pick attack.

Welcome, bcoz.

Another Nightwish fan always is welcome! Would love to see Emppu with an EBMM.

The D Sonic/Norton combo is fantastic, even outwith a JP playing influence.

Look forward to seeing where you go with this, keep us updated.
