I'm aware of the issues regarding the purple dye fading on the EVH models awhile back.

My question is ...
Was this ever corrected at any point during the production of the EVH?
If not, was it ever corrected and at what point?

I'm seriously considering a purple Axis but with the fading I've seen happen on most purple EVH's, I'm a little concerned.

Thanks.

If memory serves me right, EBMM may have used the same purple dye on very early Axis models, but then discontinued the purple color because of the fading for a short time. They used a different kind of dye, and produced purple Axis' with this new formulation, but discovered that the purple was so dark that it was difficult to see the figuring through it. It was shortly after that, EBMM abandoned the Trans-Purple altoghther. I wanna say somewhere around 2001 or 2002.

I had a 2000 Purple Quilt Axis (which now belongs to fellow forumite AaC) and it did not fade at all...actually, I had at one point posted a question about how to make the newer purple fade, but at that time was advised that the newer finishes used dyes that DID NOT fade, and I can attest to the fact that, nine years after it was completed, my Axis showed no signs of fading at all!

Thanks for the responses but I'm sorta confused as to what the answer is.

So EBMM never corrected the problem?
They instead discontinued the color all together?

So, I guess if I get a purple Axis, there's no telling what would happen.

I don't think there's a problem, you see old EVH's that went pale from being left out in the sun, I've never seen an axis like that - if you have any doubts though give CS a call - they know more than we do !

It's really pretty easy. If you are getting an Axis in purple, chances are it is the new formulation of the purple. If it isn't, the purple would have faded by now, so if it looks good get it.

I'm not so sure that all the EVHs that faded were all left out in the sun. I thought that the issue was that the pigment of the purple stain they were using was being absorbed into the wood over time.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I love the look of the faded purple EVHs.
