Receptionist: "Sterling, Eddie's on line 1."

Sterling: "Eddie who?"

Receptionist: "Eddie...Van Halen."

Sterling: "Oh. that Eddie. Just take a messege."

Receptionist: "And Jon is on line 2.

Sterling: "Jon who?

Receptionist: "Jon...in repairs."

Sterling: "We have a Jon in repairs?"

Receptionist: "And Keith is holding on line 3."

Sterling: "Really? Put him through. He cracks me up."

This may be a dump question  ... but can some tops have some flame and some quilt? I ask because my EVH looks like the top half is flame while the bottom half looks quilt (maybe the other way around). It isnt like there are two pieces side by side but more blended together. Either that or I don't really get the quilt look...

It's not the greatest but....you can see what I mean near the neck versus the other parts of the body. Or is that still considered flame?

Wow, purple tortoiseshell

I have one question which seems to relate a little to this thread:

Is the flame/quilt finish on the Axis random, or do certain colourse get one finish and others get...well...the other  ?

And if you order the premium quilt, is there really THAT much difference?

As for endorsements, I do think they make a difference to some....well, me to be more specific!!! As my favourite two guitarists are Steve Lukather and EVH, and I've just ordered a Luke and am saving for an Axis..,,,,

Ya know, you probably only need about 1/3-1/2 the cost of the guitar for a down payment. At least here in the states.

I put as little as 1/4 down for my Bluedawn Luke.

EdE -

NICE top ya got there, also very unusual and booty-ful. Hold onto that one!

Yup, you can have quilt and flame in one piece, as you have....it's all in how the tree grows, how the wood was sawn, and what piece was chosen from whichever part of the tree. Generally it seems the more uniform and unusual the figuring, the higher the cost of the plank will be, but that's not a hard and fast rule.

My EVH has a unique top it as well. From certain angles, it looks to have almost no grain to the top at all...just the trans-amber finish. But from other angles, and under certain lighting conidtions, the top literally comes alive. The pattern changes as your point of view changes. The best way I can describe it is like undulating waves catching the rays of light at sunset. It's really out there, and gorgeous. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

As far as the Axis goes, it is still a nice looking and sounding guitar. But it feels different in the hand to me. I could be wrong, but the neck feels totally different to me. Still very comfortable, but I don't know...it's the X-factor. My hand doesn't melt into it the same way it does on my EVH. It could just be my imagination, though. For the price, though...it's a great guitar.

You want a real bargain...A Wolfie, carved figured top, used, for well under a grand. And with beautiful tops. I know. I know. It's an EB forum. Having played them all, though...the EB is still the better instrument from a quality, soundm, and playability standpoint.

Happy hunting!
