I'd go with the Egyptian smoke myself. I've got the GraphitePearl 7 and the grey-silver-black combo is stunning. How's those NX4s play?

I command it (egyptian smoke all options and piezo) this morning

Here in France, it costs me 3245 euros, i have it at 2800 euros, because of many buying in the store where I command it !!

I guess in USA it's lower :(

Hey Beej I notice you have a d-Tuna on your N4. I thought N4's bridges were floating? Did you block the trem to get the d-tuna to work?

How does the sound compare to your axis?

Hey spkirby,

You're spot on- it's supposed to float but I blocked the trem by taping in a shim to the inside block of the floyd. I'd like to replace this with a tremel-no as soon as they're shipping (I'm sure OC will let us all know when that happens!).

Overall, the sound of this guitar is brigher than my Axis SS, due to the swamp ash body and the Lawrences I've got in there. I'd say tonally the reponse is much more even across the board (less of a midrange spike and more treble and bass). That's mostly a factor of the pickups; the stock neck pickup (Duncan '59) was too bassy and the original bridge PU (fake Lawrence) was too thin. The bridge PU is also hotter than what's in my Axis.

In all, I like the Axis more. I'm really not that big a fan of the floyd and I love the 5-way switch- makes the Axis way more versitile. But the neck and the Stephen's Cutaway on the N4 really make this thing a shredding machine. It also has an unfinished neck like the EBMMs.

I've read all about the "fake" vs real Lawrence debate. How much different does the "Willie & Becky" version compare to the "fake" since they are meant to be to built to roughly the same specs?

When you went for the "real" version of the L500 which version did you go for - the clean / regular / lead or extra lead version?

I've always been a fan of the N4 - and the similarity in config and layout to an EVH is spooky, maybe I'll just have to get me one

Huge difference between the fake and real - really. I don't want to tie up this thread with the sordid story, but the real guy (Willi - his anglicized name is BL) makes great pickups and worked with G@bson and F@nder over the years (he makes PUs for the high end F@nders right now). His stuff is excellent and he's often on hand to talk to when you order pickups. The fake guy is an ex-business partner who's using the trademark illegally and who uses Bill's old designs. AFAIK, Washburn is the only company who's still selling the fakes as stock anymore. Most people who buy an N4 swap 'em out for the real ones.

Nuno uses the L version. Dimebag used the XL (the "Dimebucker" is a copy of the XL). I put the XL in there because I use this guitar for heavy stuff. I have an R in the neck, and both pickups clean up really, really well when you back off the gain.

That said ... it's a fun guitar but there's really no comparion in quality to the EBMMs. If I was looking for a HH floyd guitar again I'd choose the Axis hands down. They're really works of art.
