Question about a JP12 model

Hello guys, this is my first post here, I'm about to buy a JP model, a guitar I've been dreaming for a while but unfortunately too expensive in my country but since in spending vacation in San Francisco, CA, I think this time I will be able to buy one.

The 2 models that have my preference are the JPX and the JP12, I'm more inclined to the JPX but there are not much offers out there, so I think I'll have to pick a JP12 which is not a bad deal, I Like the ebony fretboard and the flat fretboard, but I prefer the bigger frets of the JPX, this is fixable though, I know a luthier who does an outstanding job with stainless steel frets.

Anyway, here's my question, every jp12 that I see in stores or in the web have the ball family reserve on the 12 fret, I tested one in the guitar center last week and also had this inlay, but the one I'm looking on eBay doesn't have it, it has the regular 2 dots. So, is that some minor version of the jp12, or older maybe? Not that I care about this detail, i just want to know what I'm buying, the seller is actually a store and is listing the guitar as new.

The BFR inlay was done away with in 2013, so the ones you played were a couple years old. Otherwise it's the same guitar. The newer BFRs have an engraving on the neckplate.

Yes, all of them are BFR,

You can't go wrong with either of them. The JPX has an alder body, JP12 is made of basswood with a mahagony toneblock. So there might be a tonal difference. I own a JP12 and it sounds and plays amazing.

I prefer taller frets as well, and I can tell you that my fingers never touch the fretboard of my JP12. I play light as well (let the amp do the work), so that helps.

I like scalloped fretboards, the jumbos help to simulate that but it's not the same thing, anyway I would never do a mod like this on a ebmm.

Scallop? Yeah, I wouldn't either... I would only scallop a lesser machine and wouldn't care about value (a mod like that isn't "liked" by all!).

I love scalloped boards... just lets you get the meat of your fingers all over the strings without being hindered. You have to play light with jumbo frets or scalloped boards, otherwise you pull out of tune... as I am sure most know.

That said, I love the feel of the neck and board of the JP12... still my go-to guitar even with my BtotheA BFR. You really can't go wrong with either the X or the 12. Good luck with your choice, and let us know what you get (and post pics, or it doesn't exist!). )

Hello guys, got the JP12 but I cant open the hardcase, bought used from a very friendly and helpful dude, extremely well packed , but then when it comes to that surprise moment of the first opening, its locked, where is the f...ing key???

I just dont know if Im doing something stupid, it looks pretty straightforward, I opened the central lock but cant open those in the right and left...Im just used to Fenders hardcases. So what now, Im afraid to force the key entry with another key...
