Hi, I'm thinking about buying new Silhouette, but I didn't really play one before. In my country (Poland) it's impossible to go to the music store and just plug in :( If there was one in the store it would be propably behind bulletproof glass or sth like that

So I have a big request. Do you have any tunes that you recorded on a Silo?? If yes please give any links and I'll be more than happy to hear it :D

I would like to know if it sounds better than my present guitar (copy of strat handmade in Poland)

Thx for any replies

Philip

Philip,

I don't have a Silhouette YET, so I cannot offer you some clips.
However I have played both the Silhouette and the Silhouette Special, and I can tell you that they are great sounding guitars.
Hopefully someone will post a clip for you so you can hear how great thou art!

thx for that fogman, my present guitar is quite good I think despite of having crappy materials (wood, pickups) in it. In my opinion it sounds a bit better than mexican strats. So now I'm looking for a guitar which will really rock!!:) and EBMM Silo (h-s-h config) seems to be perfect solution. Just need to make sure how does it sound. So I'm still waiting for your tunes recorded on Silo. It'd great if you have any guys.

Thx to fogman, and for any replies

Philip, what kind of music I you looking to play? Sio is an awesom guitar, I've been craving for one since I first tried it in the store, but it has very vintage sound to it unless you do a major pickups change. It has much quieter pickups then say Axis. Keep this in mind.

Oooops I didn't read your post thoroughly, I have a Silo Spec, so there is a difference between the Special and the regular Silo...

I can do up some soundclips for you this weekend, and yes, although they may be leaning towards a vintage tone, they can still ROCK!

I was actually looking for a SSH config since it's more like your vintage strat. When I tried the HSS config I was blown away by the sounds. This would br more of a modern/progressive rock sounding guitar since the pickups (aside from the configuration) are different from the Silhouette to the Silhouette Special.

When I was trying the HSH Silo, I fell in love with the clean sounds I got with the neck pickup and the next pickup selection over. I wouldn't be able to properly describe the sound, but it was like there were pedals already hooked up to the amp!

Isn't like 99.9% of Norm's stuff on a Silhouette? Didn't someone upload some mp3's of a couple of his songs once, a while back? Wouldn't it be nice if I had a few answers instead of just a whack more questions?

Well I playing different things really. Some Satch stuff, classic rock, some VH stuff, and some pop-rock. I thought about JP6 but I just can't live without that middle single coil:) I use it for clean palm mutting and for chords with chorus. That is why I'm thinking about H-S-H config, I am confused :(

Philip,

I was in the exact same boat as you. I love the JP but I must have at least 1 single coil and a maple fret board first.
Trust me when I say, I've researched this to death!
The Silo is a very versatile guitar and you can't go wrong in choosing it!

.... the only problem is, once you've decided on the guitar, you must then torture yourself with choosing one of 10 000 000 colour possibilities, between body, pickguard, matching headstock!!!!
It's a good problem to have ;)

Orangechannel has a Silhouette I believe, and he's got recording gear. Maybe he can post something played on a silo?

Tell ya what though, I have a JP6 and the middle pickup switch position (which utilizes the inner coils of each humbucker) sounds awfully good for the purposes you mentioned. I always liked the 1-click away from the neck position on a 5-way switch in an HSH guitar. The JP6 'middle' position is very similar.

thx SteveB, although I would like to have a JP6 I am afraid I couldn't afford it:( also when I would buy a JP I would propably shred all the time :):) I just thought about more versatile axe, so Silo seems to be a good choice to music from dream theater to pop and funky things (not interested in toilet-brush metal :) )

I have recordings with a silo special but I changed all the pups to way hotter and more aggressive pups so it would not really count, but I will post something if you wanna hear a silo special with a duncan distortion in the bridge playing through a mig 50, a XXX and a JCM 800 -
