Question about AL MM90

Hey Knuckleheads,

I have a question about my AL MM90. I really like the guitar but I find the notch positions (2&4) kinda muddy sounding. I don't notice it too much when I'm playing riffs or lead, however I notice it when I'm playing chords. I have an AL s/s/s and if I compare the 2 (with the same amp settings), I find my s/s/s guitar so much clearer on positions 2&4. I can't really figure it out....Any thoughts??

My AL MM90 doesn't sound muddy on any position.
This is with a Blackface Fender style amp and and various distortion pedals.
In fact I would say the most remarkable thing about the guitar is its clarity and responsiveness.
Just how much gain are you using?

I'm using a hotrod deluxe and I'm not using much gain....I usually play on the "drive" channel with the gain on 3 or 4 max....I find that I have to pull the middle and bass way down to get clarity on positions 2&4....

Well, I have owned one of those amps in the past.
The "Out of Phase" sounds on a AL MM90 and on a Strat for that matter are not as focused as the single pickup selections. However with my fender style and a tube screamer, I don't fine the notch positions muddy.

I have no issue at all with those positions and I use them quite a lot

I don't find those positions muddy. I do tweak the treble and middle settings a bit when I switch between my Silo Special and my AL MM90.

I live on the bridge/middle on my MM90 AL. Best tone ive ever heard, through my Fender Super Reverb.

Yeah, I think the problem here is not the guitar....its the operator of the guitar (that would be me).

I've been spending the last few days fiddling with my amp. I guess I'm just used to setting it a certain way.

I find if I bring up the treble and presence 3/4's of the way up (to 9 on my hot rod deluxe) and set the bass and middle to say 4 or 5 then I can get the tone I'm looking for. It's just taken me a while to get used to the MM90's.

I have to say I'm liking the AL MM90 more all the time. I think it is actually the Holy Grail single coil guitar......it has all the sounds I'm looking for...fat blues, twang, beautiful cleans....awesome.

Not that heavy! I'm light as and its fine for me. Plus its an amp, I never expect them to be light!

Must be all those veggies Rob ... my old Super is pretty darn heavy. It's just about at death's door though so I don't take it out much anymore.

Positions 2 and 4 are 8loody fantastic on my Al.

I like using my Blues junior with treble and bass all off and with the middle up maximum. It's a great sound!
