I just got the guitar yesterday.

I took off the control panel on the back to look at the active preamp.

I want to see the adjustable boost.

There are 4 controls that can be adjusted.

Is there a guide to show what screw is used to adjust the boost?

What are the 3 other adjustments for?

There was a thin silver wire that was loose near one of the screws.

Is this wire a ground wire?

It seems the wire rested over a screw hole and when the plate was on it would hold it in place.

Is that right? Is that what the wire is and where it should be?

Does it partially go into the screw home?

Thx U,

Scott

The bare silver wire goes to the screw hole (partial insert) and is used to connect the rear cavity cover to ground for shielding purposes.

OK, so that wire must go into the screw hole and stay there for the guitar to be properly grounded?

When you screw down the cover plate, the shielding (looks like foil...) clamps down on the wire and makes contact. Don't mess with it...

Interesting. There should be something about this. The wire was loose when I took the control panel off.

I'd like to see what the inside of the controls cavity looks like on a Valentine. Can one of you guys post a pic?

The pots control the boost & the combined pickup volume, and it appears that they are labeled on the board as to which pot adjusts which feature.

Generally speaking, trim pots like those that are sealed in the cavity are set at the factory and not intended to be adjusted by the user.
If you already messed with them, you better call EBMM and ask for assistance.

Some guitars come with user adjustable trim pots, which are accessible through the cover and usually come with instructions.

...generally speaking....

FWIW, my opinion is that all trim pots should be messed with. Find what your ears like and go for it.

In addition.... the two pots closest to the bottom of the picture control the silent circuit for each pickup individually... the one with the N next to it controls the Neck(when coil split) and the B is the Bridge(can't see the B in that pic but it's to the right of the right pot).

Does anyone know if it's a relatively easy mod on the valentine to make the tone control affect the bridge pickup only?
I never turn down the tone on neck but almost always have the bridge dialed back a bit.

Sorry for the hi-jack

Ah, so that's the new Silent Circuit! I'd been waiting to see a pic of it. Makes sense to have two coils with separate levels. (You could sort of do it with the old one with trimpots.)
