First of all I'm new to these forums so hi, secondly I'm considering buying a 1994 sterling bass. I noticed that the bridge is different to the newer basses so i was wondering is anything else different about the older sterlings and does it make it better/worse than they are now?

Welcome,
Doesn't matter what year, you'll get a great bass.
No better / No Worse .. .
However,
Personally I'd prefer the '94 especially if it had a birds-eye neck
(cosmetic). The neck plate is also recessed on the older Sterlings
whick also looks nice. And the larger bridge allows for the installation
of mutes if you like that kind of thing & you can find them.
