Hi,

My brother is looking for a electric guitar for his young son to start learning on. Does anyone know if the OLP MM1 is a decent starter guitar?

Thanks

I've got one. I really like it. I actually sold the first guitar I've ever owned(a G&L that had a lot of sentimental value) as soon as I tried one at GC. For $175, it can't be beat! It plays fast-and sounds better than you'd ever expect for the price. The only thing I changed was the pickup height. I raised it a little to get a little hotter. Makes me want to try their Petrucci model, or even the MM sub1. I figure, if they can make a guitar that good for under $200, their better models must be awesome.

Keep in mind OLP has absolutely nothing to do with EBMM. THey just license the body shapes. The necks ARE NOT the same as EBMM instruments (neither are the rest of the specs). The MM Sub1 is a legit EBMM axe however.

I think as a starter, it is a good guitar. Let's you know if the interest is there and if not, not too big of a loss. I had one....talk about a survivor. Really quick story, mine was run over by baggage handlers in Connecticut and on it's way to Cali, well, neck snapped in half. But, before the neck incident, it was run over and stayed in tune.....not bad for a $200 guitar. At least it wasn't my JP....heheheh

The OLP would be the Ultimate started in mo opinion. I loved it when I tried it the many times I have. Can't beat it for under $200!!
