I just got back from Guitar Center and it has confirmed my choice that I am going to enter the music man world with a stingray 4. I just have a couple questions.

I played an sr4 trans blue at guitar center that the strings were strung all the way through the body. They claimed that this was a limited edition only for guitar center and it had a punchier tone. Is this true? Are all other stingrays just strung through the bridge and end there?

Also, I didn't like any of the color configs at guitar center so I think I'm going to order one from basscentral. Is this a good way to go about this?

Thanks

Hi,

The punchier tone, it's highly subjective, many think it (strung through the body) does not make a difference in tone. 'normal Stingrays' are top-loaded, but the 30th anniversary has a string through body, and the Pre-EB's as well

Ordering at bass central is nice, many models in stock, so you don't have to wait 3-4 months when custom ordering, I had mine (Florida USA-Belgium) in 3 days :) ask for Beaver.

I would not hesitate for a second to buy my next Ball from Beaver and the guys at Bass Central! Class act all the way around....Grasshopper or John or Beaver would definitely be my first call for a Ball....

Peace,

On the topic of STB vs standard bridge: Except for some limited edition models made for anniversaries, distributors or large retailers, all recent EBMM basses are strung through the bridge.

Side note: Although I like the STB very much, and would prefer it if it was an option, I have to admit that it makes only very little difference if any. Over a decade ago, I had a Sterling converted to STB in the hope to get better sustain and deeper tone -- but there was no noticable change.
