I took my used Stingray to a music store today. A friend of mine adjusted the string height and in about 10 minutes it felt as good as my Bongo. But he didn't know what size hex wrench he was using. I'd like to get one in case I need it in the future. Can you tell me what size?

Thanks,

Mahlon

When I got my SR it buzzed all over the place so I had to adjust the height. I imagine it is rare to have that experience because they are well adjusted before they go out the door. Too bad it buzzed because that low action was butter.

In my case I bought an ebay Stingray from a guy in New York. I don't know how it played in New York but in hot and humid South Carolina the strings were too high. Fixed in 10 minutes though. Plays great. :D

Here's what happens. When our instruments leave the factory, they are perfectly set up in San Luis Obispo. Average temp around 72(I am guessing, but you get the idea). Then the guitars and basses are shipped all over the world where the temps are greatly different than the temps in SLO. The necks are wood and may react to different temps/humidity etc. It just takes a slight adjustment of the truss rod to get the instruments ready to rip again. This can be done without removing a truss rod cover. or even a pickguard like on some guitars. One more reason EB/MM instruments are the shiznit as the kids say ;)

Amen, Juan.

When the Logan Flamey Bongo arrived, having been expertly setup by someone, and I'm not sure who that might have been but I hear the initials are Jon Smith, the Texas heat and change in humidity had caused the neck to react and my action was way high up at the 12th fret.

One tweak, wait a while, another small tweak, good as new!

The weather in Kansas plays hell on things staying perfect. I had to adjust the truss rod a wee bit when I brought it home and changed strings on it. Every once in awhile again due to playing outdoors in moisture and or cold. Or an afternoon in the Sun gig.

Never turned it more than 1/4 turn to have it right back in shape.

That is just so awesome I am not smart enough to put more praise for how my SR5 was built into words.

I know I found something that will work longer and harder than I will. ;)

O Dudley, blessed art thou with that holiest gift of humbleness.
Though thou havest not heard of the Wal bass,
thou still art the greatest luthier ever to grace the craft.
May thy radius gauge be true,
and thy knowledge of preamps continue to surpass all others.

I can't remember who the questioner was, but after the forum jam, someone said, "So Dudley, you really like that Albert Lee guitar?"

And Dudley said, "Well...I like them all."

I adore that response.

Where are you, Dudley? We bassists love you, man.

Me thinks Dudley likes people he doesn't even know. There is something for all to be had at EB.

Well, Dudley seems like a very nice person, to be sure, and the above may or may not be true....but the opposite is surely true.

To wit: People who don't even know Dudley like him.

True or not?
