Scotty, a bunch of tweakers have been talking to me about how great mahogany is on a fretless bass. I'm sure they're right but homey don't play no fretless.

Anyway, there were a few 25th Anniversary SRs with fretless boards. Are you guys planning on making a few or even taking orders for fretless models?

Thanks, nice hat by the way.

I'd like to know that too, I played a 25th with a maple top from BassCentral years ago and it was fantastic, and was around 9.5lb's in wieght. It sang better than than both the Wal fretless basses I owned.

I have found that any bass made from mahogany or Koa (same thing) tends to accentuate mid tones. Not to mention the fact that mahogany is similar to alder in weight.

Certainly I can only speak for myself, but if I had the choice I would purchase a mahogany bodied bass over ash or maple any day.

I've got a mahogany/ebony GnL L2K-e fretless. Rare bird, but the privelege of owning this bird has, so far, saved me the added expense of getting a Bongo FL.

My only EB FL is an ash SR4. It has the dreaded BassLines PU and pre-amp, but for FL this sorts everything out just perfect. It was installed by the previous owner, but I'd bet if this SR4 had been 'hog-bodied instead of ash, he would not have gone to the expense of both buying the BassLines and devalueing the Ray.

Buying it pre-modded, I didn't take the $$ hit, and it sounds perfect. Everyone who hears it or plays it loves it, but building it out of mahogany in the first place would have kept the whole situation much tidier. My 'hog GnL FL tells me that, cuz I compared it to my ash GnL. The ash GnL is long gone.
