I'm curious to why you have chosen Axis over Axis Super Sport?

It just seems that A.S.S. has most all that Axis has to offer plus some.

One is reasonably faithful to the original EVH model and the other is more choice. Choice is good...

How do you compare your Axis to the 20th?... I guess in tone and playbility.

I have one of each and they are different beasts. I prefer the simplicity of the Axis, the locking floyd never goes out of tune even with abuse and it definitely has more sonic power to it, the ASS has different tones, is much brighter, less aggressive and has some great single coilish tones in postions 2 and 4. My ASS also has piezo for even more tonal options.

I've said it before:

Axis for hard rock/metal,
ASS for everything else!

I bought the Axis purely for the "brown" sound aspect. I mainly use my Luke. I tried the regular Axis and the ASS back to back through the same amps in the shop and felt the original just had that bit more punch, growl and sustain when overdriven. Not to say the ASS doesn't, but there is a definite, very subtle, difference tha I preferred.

Steve and Ali hit the nail on the head.

There's definitely a difference to the sound and feel of my Axis compared to my Super Sport. Both are hardtails so the Floyd doesn't come into it in my case.

The ASS is slightly more polite in sound, a bit brighter and has the extra sounds of the 5 way switch. The Axis is the more raw sounding, a bit darker and great for rockin' out.

If you remove the tone pot, and put in a 3 way (which I have) the ASS and Axis sound much the same. I was very pleased with the job Charlie Chandler did filling in the hole.

Hey Tim, great ASS, if you'll pardon the expression.

I actually like the fact the my ASS and Axis sound different, but good to know a mod like that works!
