All right - I have a question.

In know this isn't a Ampeg forum - but I've noticed a lot of you guys are using Ampeg equipment with Stingrays/Bongos/Sterlings/etc.

I know that Bovine has stated that he uses a couple Ampeg Classic cabinets for example.

My question is: From your experience - What is the difference between the Ampeg Classic line and the B line? Which is technically the better line? Also, what about quality issues as far as Ampeg is concerned?

I used an Ampeg cabinet years ago - and right now I'm shopping for a new rig, so I thought I'd get some opinions from people who are playing similar instruments.

I know it all comes down to personal taste - but where I live makes it hard to demo any Ampeg products. Like I said above, I've used Ampeg cabinets before - but it's been awhile.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

the classics are the superior cabs, they are the cabs that professional signed big name people use, most of the time that is. the line is a more economy version, similar to mm's sub line. same thing(more or less) just cheaper. i doubt there are many differences between the two sound wise. and for quality there are 70's cabs still around that work just as good as the day they were new. of course theyre a bit roughed up astechitaly, but they still work and sound great. hope ive helped you out.

the classic series is pretty good, depending on which one you get...

almost anything ending in E:
nice sound at low volume, loses a LOT of low end as you turn up, even though it's the same power handling, the svt410he tends to break up and sound thin even when turned up (as does the 15e usually).

the SVT410HLF, is excellent, same box design as the 6x10 and 8x10 just smaller! Bottom end is fantastic and tight and deep.

If you want a great rig out of ampeg, get yourself into a svt410hlf and find a BXT15, this should make for a nice sounding stack.
