I had 2 main issues with the JP6. I've solved them, but I'd like to know if these are things I need to do everytime I buy an EBMM guitar? Especially since I'm gassing heavily for a nice Silhouette and an Axis.
1. The nut on the JP6 was a bit too tight on the strings. The guitar comes with 10s, and there was always these creaking sounds everytime I made a bend or used the trem. The strings never stayed in tune, and I notices that the tension wasn't balanced on both sides of the nut.
2. The pickups were a bit weak in terms of meaty tone. This wasn't so bad when I had the D Sonic in there, and I mainly used the bridge pickup. But I did notice the slots are routed deeper for the D sonic as compared to the neck pup, and the stock positions have the D sonic closer to the strings than the neck pup.
Is the stock pickup height wat JP uses? I'm just curious. But mainly, would I have to "grease" the nut on my future EBMM guitars? I don't mind doing so, and this isn't a reflection of EBMM quality, (because this is still the best quality superstrat guitar I've ever owned, and I've owned quite a few in my time... heh.) but I'd just like to know if I have to be prepared to work on them a bit.

I used extremely fine sandpaper to widen the slots just a bit, but that didn't solve it. What worked was applying pencil lead (graphite) into the slots. Now the trem is so smooth, no creaking, and the guitar is more stable in tuning than compared to ANY of my other guitars with fixed bridges.

I have since replaced the PAF Pros I installed with the stock neck pup and a Steve's Special. Now the tone was correct (to my preference), but the heights were still a problem. Of course, this wouldn't be a problem on a Silhouette, but on a direct mounted guitar, I had to add shims (like the axis?). I raised the Neck by 1mm, and the bridge by 3mm. The action is untouched. Now the guitar sounds absolutely amazing. Very remniscent of JP's Liquid Tension tones. There is meat on the bones now. Heh...
