Hi everyone.

I apologize for these questions since they are kind of foolish.

1. what string gauge is on it?
This link Which strings do you use at the factory to string up your guitars? says they are 10s but John Petrucci says 9s.

2. The output jack seem to interfere with guitar stands that I have. Basically the jack is right at the same location the guitar rests on the lower arm of the stand. This results in the guitar always leaning and not sit straight up since the instrument cable needs to be shifted above or below the arm. More of an observation I guess unless someone has a recommended stand I should get.

3. Is there a recommended strap lock? I know EB sells one but the video I saw requires drilling and I'm not sure if I have the guts to do that!

4. Is it recommended to get it professionally set up?

Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum! There is an old, long standing, and perhaps even silly tradition for new members here that goes something like this...

You guitar doesn't exist without pictures! :)

To your questions

1. Says 9s on the pages for all the individual guitars. Usually when JP changes his preferred gauge, the production shifts as well. Maybe not all the web pages though. :)

2. Stand? I have no idea. Real JP players will chime in here I'm sure.

3. The existing stock screws fit perfectly for my EB strap locks. No drilling required!

4. Music Man guitars are some of the best factory setups I've ever seen. If the guitar plays well for you now and you're happy with it, no need to touch it. You can also learn to do your own setups. It's not rocket science. Just bear in mind that factory specs for the JP suits JP and those specifications won't suit everybody else.

Best advice is to not leave your guitar plugged in while on the stand. Pretty easy to trip on the cable that you forgot was there and, boom, there goes the guitar.

This. I've got 3 and I don't leave them plugged in... good habit with any guitar is to unplug it when not in use IMO

Leaving guitar cable plugged into jack will drain battery life if piezo equipped.

No piezo here. Wow, I had no idea most guitarist unplug. I'm mainly using it at a church service so all of my equipment stays on stage for a while after the set. Sounds like that's what I'll have to do. Don't want to damage the output. This is the only guitar that I've owned so far with this issue.

Yeah, it's definitely worth doing ... just in case. At gigs, I mute my output (kick the tuner on if I'm switching guitars, or turn the amp on standby between sets) and pull the plug.

One of my JP's suffered SEVERE damage when I left it plugged in on the stand. Basically got yanked off the stand and broke the neck.

The EB straplocks are awesome. All my instruments have them.

I HIGHLY recommend one of those Hercules stands. They're pricy, but definitely worth it.

while researching Hercules stands, I came upon the Hercules istand for electric guitar for super cheap at guitarcenter. Much cheaper than at amazon/musician's friend.

Instead of posting the details again, go to me thread I created. Cheap enough to buy and throw into my gig bag for emergencies.

Hercules Guitar istand GS602B (for electric guitar) $12.99+tax @ GuitarCenter.com ship-to-store

Nice one, I just bought a couple of stands from Hercules including the 5-guitar rack. I get fed up taking them in and out of their cases every time. The 6 guitar hanger looks good, would make a nice Christmas tree as well with a bit of tinsel!
