Can anyone tell me if there was ever a Stingray 4 in Trans Purple? Since that color was discontinued, does anyone know where I might be able to pick a really nice one used? I perfer Trans purple/white pearl PG, maple fretboard.

Thanks

A friend of mine has one has one with Rosewood and white pearl. He's had it for awhile, and it does have alittle wear.

im confused, i thought only the sterling had the option of single coil/humbucking prickup?

You mean the switch? It's also available on the SR5. The SR5 was basically a Sterling but was renamed to the Stingray 5 for marketing purposes. Better name recognition I guess.

Trans. purple w/ pearl pg...sweet! Not sure I would have traded that one. Maybe they'll come back out with that color sometime.

The Stingray 5 was introduced in 1988, the Sterling in 1993.

hhhuuuummmm....

That's what I had read on one of those MM info/fan sites. I'm trying to find the link to it but no luck so far. Other than reading it on that site I really havn't heard one way or the other.

As far as a SR5 vs. Sterling. They appear to be brothers at the least. I would put the SR5 closer to the Sterling than the SR4 in both appearance and tone.

EB brought out the Stingray 5 in 1988.

It wasn't exactly like the Stingray, it had narrower string spacing more suitable for a five string bass, and more versatile electronics.

EB then decided to bring out a four string that had the features of the SR5 in 1993. Clearly they couldn't call it the SR4, so they called it the Sterling, after Sterling Ball.

So basically what I said is correct. Just backwards.
