Quick Petrucci model question

Hey Now,

Darrell (DWF1004) is in town so that means a mandatory visit to the local Guitar Centers in town. We were just messing around scoping out the BFR Luke and then the newest addition to thier wall, a Black Quilted BFR Petrucci.

After several laps Darrell pointed out a gorgeous, fully loaded, Candy Red Petrucci. I got the chance to plug her into a sweet Egnater 2x12 partly because I was tired of hearing a youngster butchering Green Day and partly because I wanted to give the Pet another try. I played one a long time ago back in NY but it was used, beaten, and someone installed a Dimebucker in it so it sounded pretty horrible (at least to my ears)

This guitar sounded and played great. The D Sonic really added some sweetness and the setup was almost perfect. I'm glad to say I now fully understand why so many of you go nuts over this guitar, it is great.

Here's the question, how do the options work, is the piezo option contained in a package with matching headstock and JP inlays?

You can get the piezo w/o either the matching headstock or the inlays, or with the matching stock and no inlays, or natty stock with inlays, or no piezo with matching stock and.... well, you get the picture . This goes only for the standard JP. All BFRs are fully loaded.

What he said. There's no "package," you just order whatever options you want on it. The piezo and matching headstock are pretty common on the JP models.

Thanks for the info guys. I don"t know why, but for some reason I thought the options were packaged together.

I still can"t get over how good that guitar played and sounded(plus the Candy Red is just amazing) ....the GC on Las Vegas Blvd has really been a place of excellent quality and seems to strive to keep the guitars in great condition.

Side note for our bass playing brethren, there is a gorgeous Rolls Burgundy Bongo at this location as well, and the price is really tempting.

Candy red IS amazing - I've had a pet without any bells and whistles in candy red. BTW, how did You like pet's neck compared to Morse?

Good question, I always thought that the neck on the Pet I played back in NY was so uncomfortable, but I think it was just because it was a used one that had seen some miles and also really needed a good set-up. There is that shredder train of thought with regards to the Petrucci neck but I found it easily adaptable. I really didn't find any need to adjust my style whatsoever. It played effortlessly and through the Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 the sound was ridiculous.
The jump in neck radius (12"-15") was nothing and I am now thinking about pickup up a Petrucci.

There is a notable difference between the D-sonic and the modded Steve's Special but some of the tonal variations on the DT/JP albums has to do with JP's penchant for changing his amp set-up from album to album.

From my own comparisons among my Pets, I find the SS smoother for leads. The D-sonic is much more aggressive sounding. I love both, especially thru my Egnater Mod50.

I deffinitely perefered the SS, that's why I used to have three "older" JPs, only my BFR JP had a D-Sonic.

Because of that, I even had my trem 20-th modified, so that now it has a SS in the bridge (together with a Humbucker from Hell in the neck and a push-pull pot for coil-splitting)
