So today my dad and I wanted to do something because there was nothing else to do. We drove up to New Jersey Guitar and Bass (or whatever it's called) who supposedly had 11 EBMM JPs in stock, and I had never actually played one before. So we got there, and they had a buttload of EBMMs (heaven)! They even had a couple of EVHs and a Silhouette 20th!

So anyway, sitting there was a JP6 in Radiance Red with piezo, standard dot inlays, and the Steve's Special, so it must have been older, and a black painted headstock. It was such a kickass guitar and felt so great to play. There was a lot of clarity in the notes, and on top of that, it was the best looking guitar I had ever seen. The amp was crap, so I didn't really get to test it to its full "ability" and it was a really small store with lots of great stuff, and everybody was hanging over my shoulder. Then I tried a Luke, which didn't feel or sound as good to me, but great anyway. Oh yeah and the piezo sounded AMAZING!!!!

So my question is, does Radiance Red always have the black headstock, or was it a Limited Edition or something? Because I really liked the color, and when I get a JP (not anytime soon), I might get Radiance Red, but only if it has the black headstock because it looked super awesome!

And on a side note, I got a couple black Jazz IIIs and Red Jazz IIIs, and I must say, they are great picks. Still don't know what I like better because they give you slightly different sounds.

And on another side note, how do Sapphire Black and Graphite Pearl compare on JPs in person? I love both colors, and I've seen the Sapphire Black on Music Man Bongos, but I've never actually seen Graphite Pearl up close.

Sapphire Black is more sparkly-ish black than normal black, and also, slightly lighter tint. Graphite Pearl is a very sleek looking dull silver. A very under-rated colour in my opinion. I'm sure Fogman will help you out with some pics.

The black headstock was only on the LE04s, I think. I'm pretty sure because I saw a Rad Red with a red sparkly headstock at LA Music a few weeks ago, with a D Sonic. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone?

I like the Black Jazz IIIs, myself! :D

Thanks for the input!

I kinda like the Red Jazz IIIs...lol! But seriously, I think I like the red ones a little better.

I think they're just made from different materials. The black ones are nylon, I believe, and the red ones are something else, probably plastic. I usually prefer nylon, but to me, it sounds like the red ones give my tone more of a "bite."

Now all I can think of is that JP!!! I NEED ONE NOW!!! There was just some kind of "magic" about it.

The red and black Jazz III dilemma. I can't tell the difference either from holding it or trying to bend it with my hands, but I still felt there was a difference somewhere. I'll test drive a new one of each again and pay more attention to the attack of the sound. I initially used a black one until it wore down to a regular pick shape :p now I'm using a red one and I feel better with it, I can't tell why. Maybe it just looks cooler. Oh i use the red one on bass too, whenever I feel like picking it, which is not often.

To answer your question on a clearer way: The black headstock is a limited edition. The regular radiance reds have either a red headstock or a natural (maple) headstock. I love the looks of the black headstock on RR too. Save up and get that beauty!!

I would get it when I have enough money, but I'd rather get one with the JP inlays and D Sonic. It was so beautiful though...I can't stop thinking about it!!! And thanks for the help, it is greatly appreciated.

And how does Candy Apple Red look on a JP in person?...

Have your Dad co-sign the loan and work the $ off, or if you don't have a job get one man!!

It really comes down to how badly you want the guitar. :)

Good luck, Glenn |B)

Just to be clear on this, radiance red is still available as a color choice but if you order a matching headstock it will be red...the black headstock was only for the 2004 limited editions.

I love both the Sapphire Black and Graphite Pearl. I've seen them both in person and they're great. They (like most EBMM) colours seem to change depending on the lighting. The graphite pearl can go from a dark gray, to a medium silver metallic to a true pewter colour...basically graphite!
The Sapphire Black to me is a little trickier. It goes from a black to a gray to blueish purply gray.
Here's some pics ernie1966 gave me a while back. They're pretty accurate.

Graphite Pearl

Here are a few more to get a feel for the different nuances of the colours.

You can't go wrong with any of those colours! My choice lies with Rad Red though. That colour just screams!
