Hello Folks,
I have an odd rattling / buzzing in the neck of my stringray that I am pretty sure is the truss rod. I have the relief set where I want it and there is tension on the rod for sure. But on certain notes, I definitively get a weird resonant rattle. It's not the strings or fret buzz or anything like that.

Can the truss rods be taken out of a neck? Can you just unscrew them from the butt and the whole thing just comes out? I was thinking I could pull the rod out, wrap a little tape around it here and there, then screw it back in.

Can any one lend some advice here?
Thanks!

If the rod is able to rattle to certain resonances, then
you should verrrry likely be able to hear it rattle if you
provoke it by impact. Damp the strings to silence them
and wack the neck moderatey hard with your palm in
a few places.

If you can hear the rod rattling in such a test, then you
KNOW you got a rod problem. If you hear nothing, you
still don't know one way or the other :-/
