does anybody have any photos of razor thin actions that dont have buzz (on MMs, stingrays preferable). and instructions on how to get a super low action?
Must remember that buzz is reflective of your playing style. Timmy Commerford (bassist for rage against the machine) has very nice basses (has worked with musicman, fender) and he still uses medium/high action. Why? Because he has a very aggresive attack, and he does this to avoid buzz. Meanwhile some people barely even touch their strings, they just crank their amps up. They can get teh lowest action.
Im somewhere in the middle. I have a relatively light touch but i dont want my strings to botom out when slapping. I have found the best action is as follows;
From the top of the 12th fret to bottom of the string it is 3/32" usually. Sometimes the E string goes down to 1/16", because E string buzz, to me, is the least audible because it is lower pitched.
