Been playing my SR5 for about 10 years, and I'm still finding all the right tones for what I need (so much for it being a one-trick pony!). Last night at band practice, I had it in single-coil mode (middle position on the 3-way) from practicing earlier, so I left it there, even though I normally avoid that setting in favor of series, and occassionaly parallel. I had noticed with either of the other 2 positions that my tone was powerful, but lacked a certain clarity that I was looking for. I tried fiddling with the EQ, but nothing seemed to work. I started on SC mode, just to see what it would do... man oh man... for this band, it seems that this is the way to go! I had the power (albeit less than with the other 2 modes... I guess when i say power, I mean bass, thickness, oomph, etc.) but I had way more clarity to push through the guitar and drums. Another thing that jumped out was the amazing amount of growl I was getting... slides sounded beastly! It made the bass an aggresive, growly, mean SOB, and I was digging it, hard. I know this setting isn't for everyone, or for every situation, but for those who have an SR5 with the option, don't pass over the middle position like I did for so long... it may be just what you're looking for.

Bridge single coil mode (position 2) on my Sterling 5 HS was "the edge" reason for buying it!
Of course, here are the other special features that this model is offering, but I use this position 2 mode very often, for home practice and bad sounding giggin' places! (nothing cuts through like bridge single coil)

I'm glad You (re)discovered this mode! ;)
