Protools doesn't run on XP? Dunno 'bout that - I saw an official demo of Digi 002 a couple years ago on a Compaq laptop running XP, and it worked just fine.

Maybe if you're trying to run the freeware version it won't, but as I understand it, most of the other flavors of ProTools do work on XP as long as you strictly adhere to Digidesign's recommended hardware list. Hardware incompatibility is what I understand causes most of the problems in the Windows versions of ProTools, not the software.

That said, I use CoolEdit Pro (now Adobe Audition) along with an M-Audio Firewire 410 with my own Compaq laptop, and it works quite nicely. ProTools is great (esp. if you have a Mac), but it's really not as hardware-agnostic as it could be, IMHO...

What exactly are you doing? I record on a Fostex VF160 and dump the wav tracks to my pc where I use N-track.

I don't do anything too fancy, just set levels, compress, reverb....works fine and is cheap.

Cubase is da shizzle. I will recommend no more. :)

PS, as far as I can see on Digi's website, it looks like they're only going with XP up to Service Pack 2 (still in testing), and the screen shots they have appear to be from XP as well.
