I use Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro....it's pretty simple to use, and inexpensive. There are a ton of other options out there as well. I've also heard good things about Reaper - which is uncrippled shareware.

Hello

If you are looking for an easy to use freeware, I can recommend you Quartz AudioMaster. It is limited (4 audio tracks) but if you need it just for small demo it's enough. Besides, it runs smoothly on an old PC. The other software I know (Cubase, Ableton Live, ...) are great but are not free and you need to have a good PC if you don't want to have latency problems.

I have Pro tools, Cubase, Vegas, and a couple of others....my favorite is Sony Acid Pro and Vegas. VERY user friendly and fun to play around with the drum loops, too.

Just a suggestion....I'm glad to help if you have any other questions on how to get up and running.

Don't mess around with others, having used cakewalk, audacity, pro tools, vegas, abelton and others~ go with a steinberg cubase product,I'd actually tell ya NUENDO it's the same as cubase~ plus additions of video synch it's easy to use and theres TONS of flexability and end mastering to make a finished product! if your going to learn a new programming language learn one that a true studio would use the sony acid and vegas are easy to learn but a true studio uses cubase or pro tools almost always and some pro tools equipment is very expensive you can inport cubase tracks into pro tools so it's a no loose situation!PM me i have a good idea for you!I have 6 recording software on my computers I only use nuendo or cubase they SOUND way better than the cakewalk!Tried the acid it's a neat tool but sorta' limited more like a quick scetchpad than a whole picture program IMO~i've heard good recording with lots of different setups but it also depends on your cpu and what's compatable!?

JeffreyB already told you :) I'd add very simple software with good quality and easy to use features: it's called Adobe Audition. I have it installed and I lay down some tracks for practicing and so on. Great tool to prepare for studio/songwriting. And it's not that expensive as Pro Tools :)

best,
Mike
