Hey everyone,

James here. I've been writing and recording a lot lately to find my style again, and I've been doing it all on my JP7. I recorded a heavy idea I had and put it on my myspace, I'd be very grateful if you could give it a listen and tell me what you think. I'm looking for criticism of my songwriting, riff-writing, and my recording skills, as I'm an amateur engineer at best.

I through this song together to facilitate the new band member search. I figured, if I give people direct examples of what I want to play, it should filter out people who aren't interested. I left it pretty simple because I'm looking for a second guitarist, so I tried to leave room for another texture.

Again, if anyone has any advice to offer I'm all ears.

Thanks,
James

That sounds, well...very heavy indeed! I can hear a good song in there and it definitely serves its purpose of giving potential band members a taste of what's to come. I am not an expert in the genre but it sounds pretty rockin' to me. The drums are a bit dry for my taste. Nothing a little reverb can't fix! I'd turn up the guitars a bit as well.

Thank you both for giving it a listen! I dont know if that will become a song in its current form, but I thought it had some potential. I will probably re-record it once I get a full band together. I recorded a new idea a few days ago, I'm still mixing this one and experimenting with new recording techniques I've been reading about. This time, I have two separate guitar tracks throughout. I tried the Haas effect and copied each track, panned it to the opposite side, slid it forward about 15ms, and put some high/low pass filters on it until I got a crisp heavy tone. I also EQ'd some sub lows out of the clean tone and boosted a little bass in the distortion. I recorded no bass, because I'm playing in Ab this time instead of B, so my 4 string bass simply wouldn't be audible. I'm going to work on it a little more tomorrow, then I'll throw it up on Myspace and inform you guys, I'd be glad to hear your opinions, fresh ears are great!
