Ok so i got Cubase SX.

What else do I need to record some guitars - Line 6 Guitar Port or something else along those lines with an amp modeller/effects? How do I create basic rythms and drums etc?

You'll need an interface of some sort, see if you had of gone the Pro Tools route you'd be ready to go ;) . As for drum patterns you could nick some drum patterns off some midifiles until you get comfortable programming them yourself. Recording is a great skill to learn and will improve your playing. Have fun!

I went the Pro Tools LE route, but only because I already knew the software. The converters were kind of a bummer, so I upgraded to Apogees.

How about an apogee Trak2 with a Firewire card?

Or if you're on a budget, check out the Apogee Mini-Me

Oh, and do yourself a favor... mic an amp. ;)

If noise is an issue, you can use a Motherload.

EVH used the Palmer box for years, which is the other Motherload-type option.

"The ADIG-LB is a successor to our legendary speaker simulator, which has conquered recording studios world wide and is used by such renowned artists as Keith Richards/Rolling Stones, Eric Lifeson/Rush, Warren Cucurullo/Duran Duran as well as Eddie Van Halen and Def Leppard, only to name a few. The ADIG-LB is connected in place of speaker cab, facilitating direkt-to-mixing-board recording, thereby eliminating undesirable "noise pollution" through "cranked" amplifiers. An extensive and unique filter section lets you shape the sound beyond the boundaries of common EQ circuits. The ADIG-LB works without any additional mains power."

Yeah, the POD's or a GuitarPort will work to get your guitar into Cubase. An amp with a line level out will work too, that's what I use. Now, drums? That's a whole nuther ball game that I started to get into, but didn't feel like dealing with. I tried Soundfonts, but they sounded cheesy. It seems to me that you need a decent MIDI drum synth to sound good, but I didn't really try hard enough with the cheaper alternatives since I mostly jam along to recorded backing tracks.

Ok, so how do I connect it then? I plug the guitar to the Korg (Line in or out?) and then what do I connect the korg to - I can't just connect the lead to the computer....?

I'm not familiar with the PX4, but the line out goes to your computer's line in. Is there an input for the guitar? A guitar is not a line level device, there must be an input for the guitar.

No computer has a line in for a guitar, unless you have an interface? Can you really connect a guitar cable to a PC or MAC???

My Soundblaster card does, and pretty much all sound cards have a mic input if you simply want to put a mic in front of your amp speaker. My amp has a line level output that I plug into the line level input of the Soundblaster. A guitar is not a line level device, you can't really plug the guitar directly into your sound card, you need some type of interface. You'll need to plug the line level out of your PX4 into the line in of your sound card. My question is... does the PX4 have a guitar input, a single 1/4 inch jack? If so, that's where the guitar goes.

Yes it does have a guitar input and an output to the amp plus a stereo headphone/mic input......?

My question is how do I connect the line out of the Korg to the computer? I don't think I have a mic in on my pc/laptop?

Hmmm, you might be stuck. Without a line input on your PC, the PX4 isn't gonna get you there by itself, it looks like you're gonna need something else. Either some kind of additional interface to get the line level signal to your USB port perhaps, or a whole different amp/modeller device that already has a USB out. I think the GuitarPort has that. The PX4 looks like it's really just a jam along learning tool, not really designed specifically for recording.

Just looked at my Notebook - theres 2 usb ports, an ethernet port and dial up internet connection. On the other side there is a Mic input, a Headphones input and some other connection of the same size as the mic in and headphones in which looks like a line input - has a small cable like icon? Could this be it?

Should I just forget the Korg and buy a Pod XT Pro 2 or XT Live or what about the Behringer V Amp Pro? Can anyone tell me a bit about these tow or three units and which would be a good first buy to dable with recording? Do they come with the PC software to mix, sequenmce etc or do I still need the Cubase software I sourced?
