more and more, im blown away how totally vicious bp and dudley have made these passive circuits in reflex, bigal, etc,. not only vicious and distinctly ebmm growly, but tend to sit better in the mix as well at times than a big old active monster (***for some things, lifes a balance i guess. dumb, not my idea.). my idea is if 1 is good, 15 is better... right jackson? but it is what it is, and it is good thanks to these wizards. heres some of me noodling some really sloppy crap, but with a tone that inspired me to play harder and faster than i ever should. like i said, if 1 is good...... try 11. thank u musicman for making all of my tone dreams come true!!!

thanks man.....thats a reflex, plugged into a di. no amps, or pedals. bass settings were: inner coil pickup (both switches up on hh reflex) in parallel, passive, tone all the way up.

Wow!

Incredible great tone, ...never tought that inner coils could sound like that!

Fantastic!

Now I'm sure that I made a right choice by ordering HH reflex! :)

Thanks Man on this demo! ;)

The passive sounds really come alive big time when you play loud and hard, pushing amp and cabs. I can not stop promoting the Big Al's neck+bridge sound for this.

Is there a setting for the outer coils on the reflex HH? That might come close...

I know tone differs from person to person and I will never sound like you but you're still making me GAS for a Reflex

Sounds great! Fat groove (both drums and bass)!

Are those programmed drums? If so, what are you using?

yeah its programmed with bfd or one of those virtual drummer thingys. ive got a real set of vintage radio kings from the '50s but this was just a little quickie jam. thanks. yeah they sound pretty good for fake huh?

Where does that drive sound come from? Sounds like something is being driven to saturation in that signal chain somewhere??

yeah for sure the mic pre is clipping because im laying into it so hard. and the reflex gets really grindy when u do that too, kinda like distortion, but in the bed of a track after everything else gets chucked onto it, vocals, guitars, etc... all that gnarl comes out as warmth and presence on the other side. what sounds good by itself almost never works in the track. you wouldnt believe how the tones that really sit well and work great in the overall mix, when solo'd, sound pretty brutal by themselves. all we are saying, is give passive a chance!!! haha..

I say, "If some is good, more is more gooder." And generally those are words to live by. One of the hardest things to learn (or in my case, have beaten into me) is that sometimes less really is what's needed. Easiest thing ever is to hit the active switch and GO BIG.

That sounds great, Craig, and is a reminder that sometimes what works is just what works. Dang, sometimes you really do have to use your ears, don't you?

That's a great sounding demo. Thank you, Craig!

Yes it is. That coil setting took my by surprise as well. It's.... hard to describe with words.

Is there a setting for the outer coils on the reflex HH? That might come close...

No, the Reflex HH has only the inner coils available. But you get to choose series and parallel. And I wouldn't want to abandon that option.

Takes a drummer to program one...
