Has anyone put a different finish on a stingray neck? I have a 3 band with the “unfinished” neck and was wondering how I might go about finishing with conversion varnish or lacquer. I have not added additional truoil, so just the factory finish on neck and headstock are all that is on there.

Once the neck has been oiled, you really can't put a varnish or lacquer finish on it. The oil and wax will interfere with the bonding of any new finish.

Also, what are you doing to do about the fretboard? Is it rosewood or maple? Is there any specific reason you don't like the hand rubbed finish?

You can add more coats of tru oil. Plenty of info about it online (and on this forum). I've added 8 coats of Tru Oil on my Stingray and I love the added protection and having an actual finish on the neck. Check out videos too, again, plenty of info online.
