I have recently hit on the idea of trying my Silo bass/baritone,currently tuned A-a out as a regular 6 string tuned E-e (if at all possible)
Is there enough string for the extra 4 inches on the scale length and wraps for the string posts? If so, could a set of,say,8 gauge strings be tuned to concert pitch or even Eb (which is what all my band tunes to) without the strings being over tight.
I'm curious and was wondering if anybody here has experimented with this and how they got on.
Thanks

Yes.

Several months ago I put a set of regular EB slinky 10s on my Silo Baritone and tuned it to concert pitch just to see if it could be done, and it is certainly possible. Be aware that you may have to either replace or fill & re-cut the nut, as the diameter of the standard pitch strings is so much less than that of the baritone strings, which could result in a ton of rattle/buzz (it happened to me).

Thanks for the replies. May look into getting another top nut to take lighter strings. That way I can always return it to stock without too much trouble.
I really enjoy playing it as a bass or baritone and I find it very inspiring to noodle around with at home but I am not getting as much chance to use it out as I would like which is the reason for wanting to experiment with it.
Versatile instrument!!
