regulars, BFRs, Xs, XIs, and XIIs!!

I can't believe how many Petrucci models have come to be in the few last years that I haven't been paying as much attention to instruments unfortunately. Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I am just curious as to any of you players who have played ALL the different Petrucci models, what strikes you as the best? Big differences to you or not? Im sure its mostly a preference thing, I for one find my original JP6 more comfortable than the BFR...yet a sarifice in that bottom heaviness during hi-gain rythm. I have NOT played the KOA or X-XII models. Good to see you guys again BTW

I've played all Petrucci's except for the latest JP12. I prefer (and this is just my opinion) the standard JP6 or JP7 over the rest simply because of the oil/wax blend neck. Nothing wrong with any model, it's just what I prefer and feels right in my hands.

...and the body-size of the regular JP model!
have had a BFR, which is a killer guitar, but nothing beats an unfinished birdseye maple neck.
there is only one thing which should be on every regluar JP model is an ebony fretboard. i love my DDII and my EU-Limited JPs because of the ebony board. the mystic dream is cool as well, but the ebony gives an extra punch and attack to the guitar, what makes a different tone.
the rosewood board JPs are cool as well, don´t get me wrong. i just prefer the JP with ebony board. if you find one, get it!

So the best of both worlds would be the JP6 BFR Roasted Neck which has the sound and exquisite quality of a BFR-model but with an unfinished birdseye roasted maple neck(plus ebony fretboard)?

Those roasted BFR necks are glossy. The PDN honeyburst BFR has the oil/wax blend neck (no finish). The all rosewoods too. I agree about the ebony. I had a Cherryburst BFR w/ ebony. It totally made a difference. My loaded JP7 stealth had an ebony board with a stealth black finished neck but was not clear coated. It had that feel of true wood rather than a finish like the BFR's, JPX, JP11 and 12. It was amazing!

So its not just me then, I really feel perfectly in home in my standard JP6, with the feel of the non painted neck, the bevel in the body which I like A LOT, and the relatively smaller body...but the BFR does have that extra low end I cant get out of my standard JP when Im ripping through my Mark V. The X+ models I havent played yet, and I can't wait to try them out to see if they fall somewhere tonally between the standards and BFRs.
