My New Axis (Floyd) came with factory String height around 1.75mm Low E - 1.5mm High E and wanted to lower the action. The guitar has a Yellow Plastic Shim which i know EB uses them.
I wanted to lower the action but didn t want to add a bigger shim in there cause i am alittle picky in sound and i was thinking that by adding a bigger shim will make the guitar more trebly.
So i tried 2 ways...
First i have removed the Shim of the neck pocket and removed the floyd base plate ( Theone that shows you that the Floyd touches the Guitar body in parallel and tryto setup the guitar this way....The action went around 1.5 mmLow E and 1.25mm High E. Theproblem was that the Little metal Floyd spirngs that hold the Screws in the floyd up were touching the Body and push the Floyd a little bit forward and the only way to keep the floyd parallel and touching the body was to tight more the Spring screws behind the body in the cavity but that was making the Floyd a little stiff.
SO what i di was to put back the EB Yellow shim in the neck pocket, raised the floyd a little without using its baseplate and installed a Tremol-No in the back to keep the Floyd Dive only. Now the Action is 1.4mm Low E 1.25mm High E which feels better. i have attached a pic on how the Floyd sits now...
Because i am alittle picky dows any of you did the same (removing the Floyd Baseplate) ? Have you seen difference in sound? Sustain e.t.c ?
