I've re-named mine, the automatic 2-day string breakers. The chrome is wearing off, and I can hear the strings popping from the grooves and hitting burrs when I bend notes. The only upside is that I can now fix a broken string faster than I can tie my shoes.

Searching various forums, I've read that the Gotoh Floyd Rose is the same as the original EBMM VH trem, and that the saddles, etc are interchangeable. Is this the truth? I'd appreciate a definite up or down on this one before I spend 100+ on a Gotoh to cannibalize. Thanks much.

The EVH Saddles and the newer Floyds we use(Gotoh) are not interchangeable. The EVH saddles have an offset that the newer ones don't have.

Ok, so my choices are:

1. live with it

2. find an older (early 90's) gotoh, and cannibalize it

3. buy new gotoh saddles, and dremel the parts to fit.

Does that sound about right?

My saddles have also worn down and the high E string saddle has always been crap on my EVH. But, this is what I do. Don't clip off the ball end of your strings. Take out the blocks in the tremolo. Fasten the string locking screws on the ball end of the strings. The saddles will be filled with the wrapped string ends, but it doesn't effect the sound too badly. It gives a warmer, fatter sound that you might like. Plus, strings last a lot longer, too. This is especially good if you like dead strings, like I and Eddie do, to record or practice with.

Try it once, and if you don't like it, buy a new bridge. A bit of warning, though; use D'Addario strings because Ernie Ball strings have a very sharp point at the tag (wrapped) end of the string that can really hurt or be annoying. D'Addarios don't have a sharp end.
