i have a silo guitar. Currently the pickups(two hums/1 single) arent giving me enough output for JP music.. What pickup changes/modes do you guys suggest that will get this guitar in the JP sound/tone territory?

Dimarzio D-Sonic & Custom JP !! :D

I'm the same at the moment, my honeymoon with the Silo is not as sweet as it once was....... may do the Air Norton / Tone Zone thing

How bout a better amp? :D

Seriously, the pickups are just one piece of the puzzle. Lots of heavy players use pickups with lower output than you'd think.

If output it the problem, try a pedal or different amp. If tone is the issue then consider a swap.

I've always thought you don't need a metal guitar to play metal. My Sub gets the job done just fine

The obvious answer is to throw a DiMarzio D-Sonic (or Steve's Special, if you are into old-school DT) and an Air Norton at the Silo...

However, you really ought not have any trouble getting enough juice from the Virtual PAFs - and to me they simply sound much better than the JP pickup combo. If you are playing a moderately high gain amp (as one must assume, considering the Petrucci reference), the amp should have plenty of gain to make up for any lack in PU output.

Obviously taste is a highly subjective matter, but I highly suggest you spend a bit more time tweaking your amp, before changing PUs. Why would I write such a thing? Well, simply because I have a really hard time understanding how anyone could have anything against the Virtual PAFs in the Silo: To me, the Silo has one of the most versatile and tonefull PU combos out there!

Cheers

Eske

P.s.: which amp/setup are you playing your Silo through?
