I played a 2-band ray the other day and LOVED the tone. I'm not sure why it was different or how it was different to my 3 bander, but somehow it sounded 'more musical'.

Is it possible to get replacement preamps, to replace my 3 band? I am suspecting no, as I remember someone saying that only small parts are available....but let me know.

Interesting, I'll have to give one a try. For me it would be a trade-off though, because I do really like having the mids cut/boost on-board. I use it alot, switching from slap to finger-style stuff.

Zak,
I suspect that the answer would be no,
although I'm sure that someone from officialdom will let you know.
But I think a 'conversion kit" would be a great idea.
There dont seem to be a lot of 2 band-ers around, (almost none in australia),
so its hard for people that are buying, to know that they might prefer that sound, unless they happen to hear one firsthand. And that choice isnt always available.
So what if, like you, some people decide that they would like to spend the extra $$ and give 2 band a try?.....Conversion kit!..... ... (I'd buy one)

Unfortunately a pre-amp can only be purchased if it is the same type as the one you already have which has to be handed over in return. You can't buy one individually and you can't swap a 3EQ in return for a 2EQ.

I guess now I have to go to GC tonight - I've never tried a 2 band SR. BTW, correction in my post above from "treb cut/boost" to "mids ...". I just noticed that I musta had a blonde moment earlier.

I suppose it makes sense for me, I never cut bass and I usually keep mids flat. I could just buy another bass....
