Hey all,

I've been lurking these forums for quite some time, but never registered, like a nerd, but no I need teh combined wisdom of everyone here to answer some questions.

First off, my main bass has been a StingRay 5, black, MHS, tort, maple fretboard, and I love it. Now, the time has come to add to my EBMM stash. I found a Bongo 5 in Desert Gold (I think) that has some 'cosmetic damage' and broken volume and blend pots. I say broken pots, but I believe only the shafts are broken off, as the seller says it still passes a signal, just the volume is up all the way constantly. My question- has anyone ordered a replacement pre from EB, and if so, how much am I looking to spend to swap the damaged one for a new one? Second- I've done my fair shar of soldering and pedal modding... I feel confident that if I had the right replacement pots, I could just fix it myself. Anyone know if EB sells just the pots? I'm getting a really killer deal on the bass, and the seller is reputable (Guitar Center) so I feel confident that it's a good deal. Any and all help is appreciated!

Hey Nick-B, just out of curiosity, was that Bongo a "used" bass or a new "floor/display" model at Guitar Center?? Just wondering how it might have gotten banged up.

To be honest, I'm not sure. Looking at a Bongo, it seems like it'd take a lot to snap the shafts! I figure it's worth the price though, even if it's a little banged up.

Oh, and to answer your question, it's used, not a floor model. Of course, I hear that GC takes the worst care of instruments, so maybe to geetard came in, wanted to be Pete Townshend and windmilled the knobs and shafts right off. I hate when that happens.

Can anyone tell me what value/ type of pots are used on the pre? I've got a local electronic store that carries a whole mess of oddball parts, and they might have them.

PEte welcome to the world of instant customer service. You have no idea how many posts over the years we get hat say "I emailed customer service but they didnt respond.....basically slamming us and then we see that they emailed us 30 minutes ago and are disappointed that their problem didnt go away. They dont realize by posting on this forum like above that they are making you look bad and you just got the email an hour ago. it isnt fair.

Odran,
What e-mail address did you send your parts request to? I see most all of the parts request emails. Often times foreign emails can get caught in our spam filter. Sounds like Pete has you all taken care of, but I was still curious.

DTG,

Contact Strings & Things direct to see if they have a Bongo in stock that may suit your needs.

cheers to pete for sorting me out with my bongo he is the dogs nuts. Big Poppa, it was never my intention to slam ernieball customer service, i should have put in my post that i had just emailed stringsand... that day, i just thought that i might get help quicker on the forum and i did, because pete literally emailed me 10 minutes later, i would never slam ernie ball in any way shape or form. so i apologise if i looked like an ungrateful bast£%$d. ernie ball customer service is fantastic.

DTG, i bought my bongo at the belfast guitar emporium but their bass section has slowly declined in quality and size since i bought it about 2 years ago and i heard a rumour they were closing down.

I emailed the same address but got a response within 24 hours, if I remember. Even that is pretty quick in my book. Anyway, I got the parts and the bass the same day, was able to replace the broken pots in about a half hour and was able to take it to practice that night. Got to play my first gig with it, and while it was smokin, I still think my Stingray 5 has 'my sound'. I've been messing around and tweaking the EQ and have found some (many!!) useable tones, so I think it's still going to be my #1. Thanks EB customer service for the great, um, service, and thanks BP and the gang for making such great basses. If I ever get rich and or famous, I'm going to have to start a collection (with a 20th 5 HH first in line!).

No can do. If I had the scratch I'd have ordered it the day I saw Ed Friedland's review on Youtube. Even my wife was like 'that sounds gooooood!'. I was able to snag the Bongo used for a good price, and I was able to defer the payments, which I can't do with the 20th. I know someone out there already has the one I'm gonna own, it's just a matter of time!
