Hi folks. I know this might sound sacreligious to some, but have any of you swapped-out the MM90s in your EBMM for something else? Do stock aftermarket P90s fit? The stock pups are certainly nice, but I was wondering if I could get some rock 'n' roll roar out of my Albert Lee Limited. Anyone tried, in particular, Lollar's P90s? Always in pursuit of more Tone...-Eric

 you what !!!!! ;)

Lance after all we've talked about too!!!

- go for it, and make sure they have gold plated covers too!

Oh yeah and sell the MM90's so that you can never put it back into original condition so that mine will become even rarer, cos It could be the case that there's not many 06 LEALS with MM90's and trem out there - how many BP ?? :D

I know I know, it's not policy to release those kind of figures.
It's just that some time ago there was a thread on this forum along the lines of it was purported that there was only two. You said that you had one, Lance had one, I got one, so that blows that theory out of the water. I was just wondering how rare this 06 Leal is with MM90 and trem.

Sorry Lance I'm thread hijacking again!
- didn't Psychipet post a thread showing a mod done to Mitch Merritts Dargie AL where he swopped out the MM90's - I hope that was not stolen when they had gear stolen from a lock up.

Hey Spud, I'm an inveterate tinkerer, but also smart enough not to do something that isn't reversable. I'd buy a second pickguard and start from scratch with the electronics. The stock MMs certainly define the uniqueness of the ALLE. However, the guitar/platform that it is also makes me wonder what other fantastic Tones are living in there waiting to be discovered. I did a similar experiment on my Silo Special and ended-up with Wagner (WCR) SR pickups, RS electronics and a Megaswitch, which transformed an already amazing guitar into the Ultimate Stratstyle. The ALLE is more versatile than that one, so can it be improved on? My lifelong quest for Tone says yes. Soooo, anyone swapped them out?-Eric

Hey Lance, you can choose from a wide array of P90s shaped double coils (humbucking) from Dimarzio. However I dont think the poles are in gold though :(

You may also want to try out those from EMG. Yeah they are poleless and IMO, look great on your LE06! :D

And remember - pics after mod!

Hi Ripper. I've played most of Dimarzio's "P90" offerings and find them neither P90 sounding, nor like anything else I've encountered. They make some great pickups, but those varieties are not their best work IMHO. For EMG axes the Luke is still undisputed king. Although the MM90s are P90-shaped they sound more like really big Strat pickups. P90s to me are thicker, more raw, slightly rude...more Townsend/Santana/West than stratty at all (these are of course prime examples of the classic P90+ mahogany=classic rock tone. Let's try it with swampash). Been playing in my classic rock act a lot more these days, and some more output in this axe would make it fit even better into my small but deadly arsenal of guitars.
Any other cool or even sick and twisted thoughts? Gotta run; off to a music trade show to see if The Glensterr has managed to scare up some BFRs or other awesomely wonderful EBMMs...film at eleven...Eric

I can get pickups made to what ever spec you want - hand wound.
PM me if interested.

Edit

Yeah that's the problem with buying bespoke pickups like that - once you have ordered then there's no going back. His pickups have received good reviews on guitars featured in Guitar and bass magazine.
We need Psycipet to chip in - I'm sure he has modded an AL with 90's - I'm just too lazy to look.
Anyway I'm off on a drive/lunch to Hay on Wye.
Catch ya!

Hey Spud, you got me thinking...let's ask everyone who reads this forum if they know the whereabouts of the other ALLE 2006s with MM90s. I know of mine and one other up here in the Toronto area, and a third one our store had ended-up somewhere in Europe (I think). I got mine signed by Albert (in gold pen of course) at our last clinic, where me and three other guys from the store opened for him. What a night! I think we must have "passed the audition", cuz Albert wanted to jam with us, but we just plain ran out of time. Next year...Eric
Ah, you're online too! I've got some guys who do great custom winds too. I guess I'm just fishing to see if someone had already done this and what their results were.-e.

BP says he has one too.

Lance, the LEALS you mention above - as well as the MM90's , did they also have trems ?

I'd love to know how many MM90/Trem LEALs were produced- I've asked but to no avail.
You sound like you have been busy?

Nice one with the albert gig I'd sh!t myself if I had to play with Big AL!! - hey send me a photo of his sig on your LEAL and I'll host it for ya?
Still have my e mail addy?- spudATwebDASHlinksDOTnet
