replacing parts

is this common among stingray users? switching out the pickup and preamps? if i get one, i think it's something i might want to do.

are there any popular switches?

I don't believe it is common. I don't think it is at all necessary.

i'm not saying that the music man pickup or preamp sucks, it's a great combo. i've played a couple before, but i was wondering if i could when i wanted a different sound.

yes, but why would you want to mess with it? its does exactly what its designed to do stock. theres a saying i heard that says "if you cant do it with the ray by itself its probably the user." it was something like that. but i believe it.

It's more common with some other makes to do some mods to try to improve a stock bass. Trust me ...Stingrays are fine right out of the box. There is no need to do any mods .It is not a common thing to do with a Stingray.

Some basses, like American Series Fenders NEED replacement pickups, but the EB pickups are outstanding. I don't know why anybody would replace the stock parts on an EB bass.

I think the MM style replacement p'ups and preamps are made for basses other than EBMM that use that style of p'up. That's the only explanation that I can come up with because there's definitely no reason to change the originals in one of theirs unless it's not working (or you want a different color and you find someone like Pete to switch an original with you).
